Lily (Cocktails) for the Fillies
You’ve all heard of the mint julep, the classic drink of the Run for the Roses. But what about the Lily, official cocktail of the Oaks Day races?
Served at Churchill Downs as an alternative to the bourbon-filled mint julep, the Lily is a fruity, hot-pink twist on a Cosmopolitan that is both refreshing and refreshingly easy to make! Here’s how you can make your own "lilies for the fillies" at home.
You’ll need:
- sweet and sour mix or lemonade
- cranberry juice
- triple sec
- your favorite vodka
- a lime wedge
- blackberries to garnish
Combine 1 part sour mix or lemonade with 1 part vodka, 3 parts cranberry juice, and a splash of triple sec. Shake with ice until cold if you’re feeling fancy, or serve on the rocks. Squeeze a lime wedge (or two) over the top — because I think everything tastes better with lime! — and garnish with a skewer of blackberries. Add a sipping straw and enjoy!
